Article Of The Month: 'Becoming Your Own Enchanted Wise Woman'

Website of The Month: After about three years of creating and soul searching, this deck of wisdom cards is ready for birthing. The deck is based on the adage; 'If you seek the truth ask a wise woman.' Historically, the word crone translates into crown or wisdom and is also connected to chronos, meaning time. In the ancient days, elder women or crones were respected as an integral part of the community. Our society seems to be obsessed with youth, yet there are over 630 million women over the age of 50 on the planet today. As leaders, counselors, teachers, grandmothers and aunties, we now have wisdom and diverse life experience to offer. Check them out at: http://www.wisdomofthecrone.com.

Tele-class ~~ "Discovering Your Authentic Soul In Midlife": This four week tele-class will be offered again on Thursday evenings from 8:00 - 9:00 PM Eastern/NY time starting the beginning of April.

Personal Message From Dinah
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I am writing this newsletter sitting at my computer crunched between 15 drawers stacked one on top of the other on my left, a pile of clothes about four feet tall at my back, and stacks of paperwork and file folders on my right. It is the only room in my house that is not full of saw dust and dry wall dust. That's why the February newsletter is coming on one of the last days along with the fact that the flu hit me hard the past week!

I am living in my lower level with a make shift office, kitchen, and bedroom amongst every possession I have. I had some water damage to my walls and decided to go ahead and renovate the entire house as my birthday/Valentines gift to myself.

Nothing has been done to this home since I had it built for myself and my daughters when they were just babies. It feels so right to be pulling up old (yuk) carpet, putting new paint on all the walls, and laying a new floor (the kind I always said I would have some day.) This outer metaphor for my inner transition from mother to children moving away and from being part of a couple to being single again is taking on a life of it's own.

It is a profoundly moving, exhilarating, scary, and adventurous experience. Every morning when I wake up, I have a choice on how I see it. I can be overwhelmed, frustrated (especially with the flu), and crabby or excited, in awe, and eager.

I can feel that because I choose the later, there is synchronicity and serendipity happening with everything. It's as if the universe is dancing with me. Even when it appears that something is going wrong, I have to remind myself not to be fooled because it always, and I mean always ends up being a blessing that I couldn't have seen coming.

This leads me into this months article. I am reminded how midlife can be the most amazing, glorious, profound time in our lives for many reasons. One of those reasons is because we can gain an amazing amount of wisdom from reflecting on our lives in order to excavate the enchanted wisdom one can only get from life experience! This is a gift we all deserve to give ourselves. It is a priceless treasure that all fairy godmothers carry with them and transforms them into a wise woman.

Article Of The Month
~ 'Becoming Your Own Enchanted Wise Woman'~

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The main step to excavating your inner wisdom is taking the time to do it. Sounds simple, but most of us are so busy these days that doing something like extracting the wisdom from the first 30, 40, 50, or 60 years of your life seems like another chore. So, what happens is that most people don't do it!

But if you approach it like a gift that you are giving yourself, an exciting journey of self discovery, a well deserved honing of the wisdom that you have reaped, it can be incredibly exciting and rewarding. Having a buddy that you do this with or enrolling in a program where you have to be accountable for going through some steps and questions can prove invaluable. I know that I seem to never get around to anything, even when it's something that is very important to me unless I have some kind of supportive structure to do it within. I will avoid it forever!

There are many gifts from doing this, but one of the main ones is learning about what truly matters to you - what you value and cherish.......what enchants and delights you! This is the heart and soul....the very core of your life, but if we aren't consciously aware of it because we haven't identified it, it will allude us.

If we take a little time to do some excavating, our discoveries can be the very foundation for designing the next part of our lives for ourselves! Let's face it, most of us didn't take the time to get to know ourselves on a deep level when we began our life's journey. We experimented and fell into things without really knowing ourselves all that well. Many of us did what was expected of us. Others did what friends did or encouraged us to do. Some of us had well intentioned adults who thought they knew what was good for us and we followed their advice.

But you dear woman have done some living now. Isn't it time that you sit in the drivers seat of your life and begin navigating it according to what you now know is valuable to you?

~*~ Taking The Enchanted Journey Of Excavating Your Own Wisdom ~*~

Get yourself comfortable in a place where you won't be disturbed. This is a sacred journey so create the atmosphere for yourself. Put on music, light candles, etc. Before answering the questions, take some deep breaths, connect with your heart, and ask your higher self/ soul/ inner fairy godmother/ inner divinity to help you. Next, ask your inner enchanted child to be present as well. Be open to not judging what presents itself and be willing to be radically honest with yourself.

Keep your adventurer's log (journal) near by and record any times when the voice of your "socialized self " begins to chime in with things like; "You can't say that! Who do you think you are? You are too old to be thinking that way! And so on. This is a key part of the journey because we usually aren't aware of these voices. They are automatic. It's so helpful to have them written down and identified. Just taking this action begins to diffuse them. Remember knowledge is power. Have an enchanted journey. Let yourself go. Let yourself dream.

"Whenever life is exciting, notions of age just fall away. People act like themselves, not the representations of some stereotyped age - group".

~Barbara Sher

~*~10 QUESTIONS FOR SELF REFLECTION IN MIDLIFE~*~

2) What have you discovered you want more of?

3) What have you discovered you want less of?

4) What would you need to let go of in order to have some of the things that you consider valuable and important in your life now?

5) What is in the way?

6) What systems (programs, people, environments......) would make sense to have in place if you were to choose to focus on getting some of those things you value into your life this year?

7) Have you discovered any dreams that are still important to you?

8) Have you discovered any new dreams?

9) Have you discovered any dreams, ideals, careers etc. that you need to let go of in order to move on?

10) What kind of symbol could you use for those things that need letting go of and what small ceremony could you do in order to let go of them to make room for the new?
